Summary: | The flood of antibacterial health product could lead to overuse and trigger the emergence of resistant bacteria, ought the alternative drug production by using medicinal plant. Hence
this study conducted on Piper betle leaf dried by using oven-dried and air-dried method, which the crude was extracted by maceration technique with ethanol as solvent. Different
concentration of crude extract were tested on four bacteria strain; Escherichia coli, Samonella typhi, Streptococcus Pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. The crude extract
was found to have high antibacterial activity against all test bacteria and the efficiency is compared with respect to ampicillin and gentamycin, which some extraction exceed 100%
efficacy. Crude extract of oven-dried sample shows a better quality to that air-dried sample at 0.75 g/ml concentration, which portray by E. coli inhibition zone of 28.00±2.00 mm
(oven-dried) and 16.33±0.56 mm (air-dried). Therefore, this study provides corroborate data regarding the drying method of sample that determine the quality of the product. |
