Description
Summary:A study was conducted at Sama Jaya Nature Reserve from the month of August 2016 until January 2017 to study the population density of plantain squirrel (Callosciurus notatu. s). Observation indicated that there were distinct behaviour in the range of habitat use for daily activities. Sama Jaya Nature Reserve has mixture of tropical heath forest and mixed dipterocarp forest. Towards January 2017, the tropical heath forest habitat was utilized as a result of higher availability of young leaves and sparsely vegetated during this season. The density of plantain squirrels analysis resulted in 68 individuals per km2 at SJNR. Sightings of plantain squirrels were probably influenced by food availability, competition for food resources and weather condition.
