Isolate of Canodama sp. obtained from oil palm was evaluated for the ability to decay wood of mangium (Aweia mal/gium), rubberwood (Hevea hrasiliensis) , and o il palm (Elaei", gllin<'('ns",· Jacq.) frond by using solid-state substrates a nd /i1 vilro agar bloc k decay test. Weight loss a nd chemica l st udies o f decayed substrates were used as parameters to detennine the ex tent of degradability caused by the Ganoderma sp. The Canoderll1a sp. degraded all types of substrates used in vilro aga r block test but not in so lid-state sub strates. Highest percentage o f weight loss due to Ganoderma sp. degradation was found in oil palm followed by l1Jbber. Oil palm comprised higher conlems for extractives material compared to tubher. The compositions of A DF, NDF, hemicellulose and lignin in the degraded substrates were decreased except fo r cellulose that was found to be inc reased compared to the sound substra tesgllin<'('ns",· Jacq.) frond by using solid-state substrates a nd /i1 vilro agar bloc k decay test.
