Isolation and characterization of pigmented bacteria for Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) application
Bacteria regularly produce pigments for different reasons and they assume as an essential part on the earth. The purpose of this project was to isolate and characterise pigmented bacteria which was utilised for the development of Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSC). Pigmented bacteria was isolated fro...

The purpose of this project was to isolate and characterise pigmented bacteria which was utilised for the development of Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSC). Pigmented bacteria was isolated from fish pond in Sorak Melayu Village, Serian and lakes of Serian town by using streak plate method and further characterised morphologically by Gram staining and other biochemical assays for identification. Results showed that two pigmented bacteria was successfully isolated which produce purple and yellow pigments. The purified pigments from the isolates was analysed using ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer (UV -vis spectrophotometer) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Bacterial pigments are expected to have great potential in the development of new generation solar cells which serve as a fundamental technology for renewable energy for the future.
