The samples were final year students of PKPG as they had spent a longer time in university and presumably had experienced and faced more problems compared to their juniors. Apart from that, the researcher was also interested to find out the possible solutions on how they managed their problems. To investigate the difficulties, the researcher focused on the five perspectives namely Age, Financial, Interest, Support and Self-Management. For the data collection, two instruments were designed, a 30-item questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. 20 respondents from each faculty, FSKPM, FCSIT and FRST were chosen randomly for the questionnaire. For the interview, only 5 respondents from each faculty were interviewed. Percentage formula was used to analyse the data collected from the questionnaire. The findings for both instruments were written descriptively. The findings showed that most PKPG students faced problems mainly related to finance and lack of support. The cause of financial problem was due to half pay salary. Apart from that, they also needed support in study. Despite these problems, it was found out that these in-service teachers were able to cope with their studies and managed their problems accordingly Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, (UNIMAS) 2004 Final Year Project Report NonPeerReviewed text en http://ir.unimas.my/id/eprint/47555/1/John.pdf John, Tinggang Ucha (2004) Difficulties Faced by In-service Teachers in Coping with UNIMAS PKPG Programmes. This study was conducted to find out the difficulties faced by in-service teachers
of UNIMAS PKPG programmes. The samples were final year students of PKPG as they
had spent a longer time in university and presumably had experienced and faced more
problems compared to their juniors. Apart from that, the researcher was also interested to
find out the possible solutions on how they managed their problems. To investigate the
difficulties, the researcher focused on the five perspectives namely Age, Financial,
Interest, Support and Self-Management.
For the data collection, two instruments were designed, a 30-item questionnaire
and a semi-structured interview. 20 respondents from each faculty, FSKPM, FCSIT and
FRST were chosen randomly for the questionnaire. For the interview, only 5 respondents
from each faculty were interviewed. Percentage formula was used to analyse the data
collected from the questionnaire. The findings for both instruments were written
descriptively.
The findings showed that most PKPG students faced problems mainly related to
finance and lack of support. The cause of financial problem was due to half pay salary.
Apart from that, they also needed support in study. Despite these problems, it was found
out that these in-service teachers were able to cope with their studies and managed their
problems accordingly |
