Description
Summary:This study aimed to record the assemblages and distribution of benthic diatom in mangrove area of Paloh, a deltaic island located in lower part of Batang Rajang, Sarawak. Samplings were carried out during low tide al four stations namely Loba Paloh, confluent of Sungai Bangau and Loba Paloh, Sungai Bangau and Sungai Slalon next 10 Batang Belawai. To facilitate accurate identification, the diatom samples were cleaned using Hydrogen PeroxideIPotassium Dichromate Oxidation method and then mounted in Naphrnx® mounting medium ou glass slides. Results showed that the diatom assemblages varied between stations, and dominated by pinnate diatom genera. A total of 26 diatom genera were recorded, of 19, which was observed at Station 2. The most common genera which occurred at every sampling station were AcllIlallthes, CoscinodiscLls, Cyclotella, Fragilaria, Gyrosigma, Melosira, Navicula, Nitzschia, Neidium, Pinnlllaria, Surirella alld Tabel/aria.
