Description
Summary:Water and sediment samples from selected locations along Sg. Sarawak Kanan were collected and examined. The concentrations of heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cd and Co were analyzed quantitatively using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. Pb was found to have the highest concentration in the river water samples with a mean concentration of 0.25 ±0.013 mg/l and Zn in the river sediments with a mean concentration of 111.8 ±0.008 mg/kg. The Siniawan Sampling Station was found to be the most highly contaminated by Pb and Zn in both its water and sediment. Mean concentrations of heavy metals in the water were found to be in the following order Pb > Zn > Cd > Co > Ni > Cu while in the river sediment the mean concentrations were in the following order Zn> Pb> Ni> Cu> Co> Cd.
