Description
Summary:The study was designed to determine the molluscs and crabs community in mangrove area which included the distribution, zonation and physico-chemical parameters. The survey was conducted in mangrove area at Asajaya Laut, Samarahan, Sarawak on December 2015 and February 2016. The survey mainly used line transect and quadrate method. Total of eleven families of mollusc (Gastropods and Bivalves) which consist of fifteen species and three families of crab with seven species recorded. Five species of mollusc by five families and one crab species were recorded at the vertical zonation. This study showed that lower intertidal zone has higher density of molluscs and crabs compared to higher and middle zone. The species diversity was found significantly correlated with pH of the mangrove. The other factor that influenced the community of molluscs and crabs is type of the substrates.
