Description
Summary:Green mussel is an edible mollusk from the genus Perna. They obtain nutrients by filter feeding. A qualitative study of the diet preferences of Perna viridis has been carried out for samples in Sungai Serpan, Asajaya. The study site was located at a barrage regulating tidal waters and was divided into three stations, before, within and after the barrage. The common genera found in the gut content were Coscinodiscus and Cyclotella while a few foramifera genera found abundantly in medium and large P. virids. The occurrence of structure resembling spicules and ossicles were also recorded. Comparison between stations showed highest number of genera in station I while comparison between sizes showed highest number of genera in medium green mussels.
