The potential to expand the use of constructed wetlands to the treatment of leachate beyond the more general treatment of wastewaters is relevant in today's context. It also an environmental friendly approach to remove pollutants from leachate. This study focused on the performance of combined SSF and FWS constructed wetland system for landfill leachate treatment. In this study, L. flava and E. crassipes were used as aquatic plants in wetland system. SSF and FWS constructed wetland systems were arranged in series and operated for around 3 weeks with hydraulic loading rate (HLR) (0.13 m/cycle/day). The performance of SSF and FWS constructed wetland was evaluated with comparison to Control systems (without plants). The result demonstrated that the overall removal efficiency of pollutants in landfill leachate using SSF and FWS constructed wetlands were achieved SS (85.21%), turbidity (99.78%), NH4-N (99.76%) andN03-N (97.14%), after end of the treatment. 2011-01-18T02:32:30Z 2011-01-18T02:32:30Z 2009-06-01 Working Paper http://hdl.handle.net/123456789/10491 en Proceeding of the 4th International Conference on Recent Advances in Materials, Minerals & Environment and 2nd Asian Symposium on Materials and Processing (RAMM & ASMP) 2009 Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
