Summary: | As commonly known, fusion welding of aluminum alloys is accompanied by the defect like porosity, solidification and crack. Friction stir welding offers a defect free weld joint since there is no melting process taking. Even so, there are still drawbacks are due to improper plastic flow of materials such as severe softening in Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and crack defect like pinhole and cracks. This defect can lead to the decrease of tensile properties and ductility strength of welded materials. As welding parameters such as tool pin profile and rotational speed play a major role in deciding weld quality, this project looks into the effect of using different rotational speed on the strength of weld joint and defects that may occur during the welding process of aluminum sheets. These projects also investigate the mechanical properties of weld joint. |
