Description
Summary:Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is a cloud-based platform that aims to provide a virtual learning environment which enable flexibility and mobility. In this regard, the implementation of VLE in Malaysia began with the Frog VLE Phase 1, Frog VLE Phase 2 and the current is DELIMa (Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia). Ironically, based on the Report of the National Audit Department (JAN) Malaysia and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the implementation of the Frog VLE Phase 1 and 2 project are classified as failure. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the readiness level and the use of Frog VLE among teachers. The study was conducted quantitatively and involved a total of 655 teachers in the state of Pahang as respondents. Data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24.0 computer software. The data obtained were also analysed using descriptive and inferential analysis. Descriptive analysis methods used were frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation to visualise and study the distribution of respondent profiles, overall readiness and Frog VLE usability. Univariate analysis technique was used for one variable, bivariate analysis technique for two variables while for more than two variables, multivariate analysis technique is used. The inferential analysis methods used were T-test, Anova test and Pearson correlation test. In addition, qualitative method was also conducted by interviewing 15 teachers to validate the quantitative data. The findings of the study show that the level of readiness and usability of Frog VLE is at a moderate level. The results also show that there are differences in teacher demographic factors in terms of age and teaching experience with the level of teacher readiness. In addition, the findings indicate that there are differences in teacher demographic factors from the aspect of gender to the level of Frog VLE consumption. However, the findings of the study found that there was no difference between school demographic factors and the level of readiness as well as usage Frog VLE among teachers. Furthermore, quantitative and qualitative data show similar finding that there is a relationship between aspects of computer usage behaviour factors, computer literacy, computer facilities and technology access with the level of readiness and usability of Frog VLE. Based on these findings, researchers have constructed a conceptual model of improving the readiness and usability of Frog VLE. Researchers also suggested some suggestions in improving the readiness and usability of the Frog VLE platform in teaching and learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran – PdP) in the state of Pahang
