Prediction of surface roughness in turning operation of low carbon steel AISI 1018
The present thesis discusses the development of the first order and second order models for predicting the roughness in turning operation of low carbon steel AISI 1018 using CVD coated carbide tips. The first order and second order equation was developed using the Response Surface Method (RSM). The...

Civil engineering (General) The present thesis discusses the development of the first order and second order models for predicting the roughness in turning operation of low carbon steel AISI 1018 using CVD coated carbide tips. The first order and second order equation was developed using the Response Surface Method (RSM). The cutting variables were the cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The study found that the predictive models able to predict the longitudinal component of the surface roughness close to those readings recorded experimentally with a 95% confident interval. The two equations indicate that the feed rate was the most dominant cutting condition on the surface roughness, followed by the depth of cut and then by the cutting speed. The surface roughness increases with increasing the feed rate and depths of cut but decreases with increasing cutting speed. In addition, the second order model proves the existence of a very strong interaction of the feed rate with depth of cut. 2009-11 Undergraduates Project Papers NonPeerReviewed pdf en http://umpir.ump.edu.my/id/eprint/17381/1/Prediction%20of%20surface%20roughness%20in%20turning%20operation%20of%20low%20carbon%20steel%20AISI%201018.pdf Fakhrur Razi, Bahrin (2009) Prediction of surface roughness in turning operation of low carbon steel AISI 1018.
