Summary: | In this thesis, a plant parasitic nematode population distribution survey was conducted in three orchards at Jeli, Kelantan from October 2015 until November 2015. 50 soil samples were taken randomly at those orchards characterized by light sandy soil of riverine origin, locally combined with the clay soil. The sample then transported to theBiology Laboratory University Malaysia Kelantan for further processing by using Baermann technique. Three species of plant parasitic nematodes were found which are Xiphinema spp., Helycotylenchus spp., and Mesocriconema spp. Nematode infestation is not conspicuous because infested plants occur singly or in small scattered patches. Farmers are generally unaware of the problem and subsequently, no prophylactic measures are taken. To avoid nematode infestations, precautions to observe include using nematicides as pre plant treatment, obtaining healthy suckers, siting beds away from infected crops, lining beds with polythene sheets as Well as keeping farm implements clean. |
