Description
Summary:The polymorphism among snake bean varieties could be detected from genetic diversity studies and may be used in snake bean breeding. The present study was conducted to determine the genetic diversity among different varieties of snake bean (Vigna unguiculata ssp. sesquipedalis) collected from districts in Kelantan i.e; Ayer Lanas, Machang, Bukit Bunga, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Pengkalan Chepa, Pasir Puteh, Rantau Panjang, Tanah Merah and Jeli. Eleven RAPD markers were used in this study but only ten showed amplified DNA bands. There were 56 polymorphic DNA bands produced by ten RAPD markers in this study. Totally four clusters discovered from branching of this phylogenetic tree. The most related varieties were from Jeli, Pasir Puteh, Tanah Merah, Rantau Panjang, and Pasir Mas. Bukit Bunga still related to the first group of the first cluster. The second cluster consisting variety from Kota Bharu and Machang. Whereas, third and fourth clusters having variety from Pengkalan Chepa and Ayer Lanas respectively. Thus, the first cluster showed six most related collections of snake beans. Second, third and forth clusters were unrelated to first cluster.
