Much of the current forest management practices can be improved through the use of current technolgies icluding remote sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) whic may enhance any decision making process. This research highlighted the use of current tecnologies including GIS and GPS in achieving sustainable forest management. The overall aim of this research was to explore the potential for the application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in forest management in Lojing. Specific objectives were to evaluate the utilization of Geo Information Technolgy in forest conservation management at Lojing Reserve Forest and to evaluate the efficiency of Geo Information System in forest conservation management at Lojing Reserve Forest. This study involved a combination of three approaches which is review of global literature in GIS, use of GIS and related technologies, and participatory action research. The results clearly demonstrate that GIS and technology have high potential for use in forest management. Intergration of GIS with participation action research can help to obtain information, gather and consolidate information into the GIS database for the local forest resource planning and management activities, GIS techonoly is one of the ways to identify and solve problems, and requires precise planning of conservation management which providing the opportunity to revolutionize the use of these technologies as a tool for forest planning. 2012 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Nyambang Anak Frankie Ted Edward Adong (2012) The role geo-information technology in conservation management (case study in Lojing Reserve Forest).
