Summary: | This research is about geology and analyze of flood occurrence in Aring, Gua Musang, Kelantan. To analyze the flood occurrence in the study area, remote sensing and GIS are used to extract the surface water drainage pattern. The aim of this research is to produce the updated geological map of the study area in the scale of 1 : 25,000, to extract a drainage pattern of the streams in the study area based on remote sensing and topographic map, and to analyze the geomorphologic and hydrologic characteristics of the study area in order to analyze the flood occurrence. Field work and investigations were done as methods of collecting geological data of the study area, in which the data also including the lithology and structural geology. The field work comprises of random sampling of rock and traversing. Laboratory studies and analysis of the mineral content were done onto the rock samples that have been collected during the field work. Two different methods were used to extract the drainage patterns; the first source is a topographic map while the second source is from Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The lithology of the study area comprises of shale, tuff and sandstone. Tuff belongs to Aring Fonnation which are predominantly pyroclastic and ages ranging from late Carboniferous to Early Triassic period. The result shows that remote sensing satellite data and GIS techniques have been proved to be an effective and relevant tool in drainage delineation or in any hydrological study. |
