Summary: | In Malaysia, 85% all the raw foods consumed by people are purchased from the wet market. However, the implication from the wet markets operation is that it generates high pollution towards river water quality. The objective of this study is to analyze the trend of the discharge quality and pollution loading by wet market profiling exercise. In this study, the analyzed parameters were pH, Temperature dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids (SS), oil & grease (O&G), ammoniacal nitrogen (AN) and fecal coliform (FC) while the statistical technique used were Independent T-Test to examine the water discharge quality parameters at both wet markets. The results show that pollution loading at Mantin Wet Market contributes high pollution loading of BOD, COD, SS, O&G, NH3-N and FC. Moreover, the statistical analysis result also revealed that at Mantin Wet Market were statistically larger significant differences level in discharged quality parameters of BOD, COD, SS, NH3-N and FC. Finally, better enforcement and realization of river water quality also important to treat the water discharged quality from the both wet markets before it is discharged into the river. |
