The study of ploy(Methyl Methacrlate-Co-Methacrylic Acid) colloidosome prepared with various oil phase fraction via two step solvent evaporation method

Poly (methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) P(MMA-co-MAA) have a potential to be used as colloidosome material. Size of colloidosome benefit for various application such as field of agriculture, cosmetic, detergent, food industry, flavour, pharmaceuticals and painting. Thus, the aim of this study...

Size of colloidosome benefit for various application such as field of agriculture, cosmetic, detergent, food industry, flavour, pharmaceuticals and painting. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of various formulation variables such as volume fraction of oil phase, molecular weight surfactant, concentration of polymer and surfactant, solvent type, and polymer type with different ratio of solvent on the preparation of poly (methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) microparticles. The average diameter of particle size and morphology of the microparticles were evaluated and characterized by optical microscope, and scanning electronic microscope (SEM). It was shown that the average particle size increase significantly from of 4.66 to 5.08 µm, with increased oil phase of volume fraction, ϕ0 — 0.33 to 0.71. The use of high MW PVA with produce double in particle size compared to lower PVA molecular weight. The particle size PVA concentration at 1.2 wt% and 1.6 wt% PVA shown decreasing dave size as PVA concentration increases. In contrast, increased concentration of polymer form 1.5 wt% to 7.5 wt% shows increase particle size. As evaporation time increase from 15 to 25 min for both chloroform and dichloromethane was used as solvent to prepare the particles decrease. As temperature increased from 23 to 47 °C to evaporation the solvent, both solvent use shown the increased of dave size and widen of particle size distribution. The morphology structure of the PMMA 80 microparticles after solvent evaporation appeared irregular when observed under optical microscope and SEM respectively compared to PMMA 99. Thus, it was concluded that the particle size and morphology of microparticles could influenced by the evaluated variables depend on the target application. 2018 Undergraduate Final Project Report NonPeerReviewed Chin, Pui Yei (2018) The study of ploy(Methyl Methacrlate-Co-Methacrylic Acid) colloidosome prepared with various oil phase fraction via two step solvent evaporation method.
