Summary:Motivation is among the major contributing factors that influence particular human behavior. Self-motivation among employees at workplace is crucial that lead to job satisfaction and reduce the turnover rate among the workers. Satisfied employees will help the company in achieving its goals and objectives as well as and growing the business. This paper looks into motivation factors among the manpower at Kong Joo Timur Steel Industries Sdn. Bhd. (KJTSI) and the causes for high turnover among its employees. In this study, interviews were used as the main data collection method by interviewing the owner and a few employees of KJTSI. The purpose of interview is to get information about the company, issues face by company, working conditions, to gauge employees’ satisfaction, the level of employee engagement initiatives at company, and etc. Next, data analysis was utilized to decrease, improved, and simplified the data and information from the interviews. Then, simplified data was analyzed, discussed, and interpreted, so the employee turnover rate can be calculated. Employee Turnover Rate Formula was used in order to calculate the turnover rate whether it is higher or not. It was found that the employee turnover rate at KJTSI is 16 per cent, which is higher than the national average of 9.5 per cent. It means that KJTSI is indeed facing a high turnover issue and it is important to KJTSI to identify and implement measure to overcome this issue. As a conclusion, motivation among the employee is a crucial factor that will affect the employee’s job satisfaction and turnover rate for a company. The lower the turnover rate would indicate that the company in taking better care of their employees’ needs.
