A historical, bibliographic, analytical, and comparative approach is adopted. The results reveal that all religions have primary and secondary sources of legislation that have been published to preserve the religion. They all share the value of protecting against harm and loss. Certain jurisprudential rules also emerge such as the basis of contracts is the facts and meanings, not the words and forms; preventing means of harm, and the precedence of custom. The sampled religions share these principles even though they differ in their implementation.
