Summary: | Land cover map preparation is essential for catchment management, hydrological analysis, and flood mapping. The process of deriving accurate land cover maps is challenging and requires a certain level of skill and experience. Cloud cover and the heterogeneity of the area under consideration increase the challenge of classification, especially in tropical areas. Recently, a wide range of free digital data and open-source software have been developed and become easily accessible. Using these data and software will help overcome many of the obstacles related to data availability and analysis in the fields of environment and water resources. In this study, the construction of the land cover map of Kelantan State in Malaysia and the accuracy assessment were performed using open-source data, and software has been demonstrated. Open satellite maps and the QGIS software were used for analysis with an overall accuracy of 91.46. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2024. |
