The MPHTJ is in charge of town planning, environmental protection, building regulation, public health and sanitation, trash disposal and management, social and economic development, and general upkeep of the town's urban infrastructure. The main office of the MPHTJ is situated at Ayer Keroh, Hang Tuah Jaya, across from the location of the Malacca City Council at Melaka Mall (formerly known as Kotamas), along Lebuh Ayer Keroh.
