Numerous researches have been done by education researchers to show the relevance of popular music to be applied in the teaching and learning in the classroom. The trend of popular music began since in the early twentieth century as stated in Theodore Adorno's seminal article "On popular music" of 1941. Nowadays, the trend has affected the children whereas they are believed to spend time more than 5 hours with media and gadgets rather than in school time. Media and gadgets give them an easy access to the world of music which they could listen, download and watch their favourite popular music videos at home. (O'Shaughnessy and Stadler, 2005). According to Micheal Hannan (1986), "Popular music used to be all the stuff the students have to wait for after school to enjoy. But these days, popular music is just as likely to be the stuff students should study in school". However, a research must be carried out in order to investigate the students' perceptions toward its relationship with popular music before it is implemented in the music lesson. In order to find out the students' perception on popular music in school, a study has been carried out to investigate the Level 1 SK(l)Simpang Lima Klang students' perceptions of the inclusion of popular music into the music lesson.
