Summary: | Human respiratory system is one of the many blessings we gained from the creator. A complex set of high machinery that enables a person breath without even realising it. However, less that concerns that the environment surrounding them may disrupts its efficient functioning. Having living inside the paddy fields area, rice farmers and their household face direct exposure towards smoke from burning of paddy's residue after harvesting season. When they inhale this smoke, they may have the risk of poor lung performance since Particulate Matter with size ranging from 2.5 µm and below (PM2.5) has been known for its ability to penetrate deeper into the bronchi tree, henceforth increasing the airway resistance and cause blocking of lung's high quality performance. Spirometry was done in order to address the villagers' Lung Function Performance (LFP) along with the Respiratory Questionnaire in order to assess their consistency of Respiratory Health Symptoms. Through all evidences produced by this study, it can be determined that living and working in paddy fields neighboring adjacent did bring some adverse impact toward poor respiratory health of its villagers and that the burning of rice straws can be defined as one of the sources of the villagers' poor respiratory health and poor lung function performance. |
