The IPR in form of patents also a valuable source of technical and scientific information and ideas on how to create healthy concerns associated with economic growth. This research studies the relationship between the numbers of patent granted and the economic growth in Malaysia by using 19 years data from 1988 until 2006. The problem with patent data was that the process of patenting was not same across countries. This is because different countries followed different procedures to grant the patents. In order to have appropriate results for this study, the data from the Malaysian Intellectual Property (MylPO) are used. This study conducted with the objective of determined the relationship between patent granted (independent variable) and the economic growth (dependent variable). Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was used as measured the economic growth in Malaysia. It is also used to shows the trend on patent granted in Malaysia. Besides that, this study also measured the strength of patents granted as a predictor to the economic growth (GDP) in Malaysia This study also may benefit the other researcher for future study. This study provides the researcher with the helpful finding as well as secondary data. These variables were analyzed using Simple Linear Regression Model, Finally, the results from all relevant analysis showed that there is significant relationship between patent granted in explained the economic growth but not strongly influenced to the contribution of the economic growth.
