Summary: | A survey to find out the level of recycling awareness of 180 students at 6 selected schools at district of Kuala Langat, comprising 3 schools from secondary school which are i) Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Batu Laut (SMKBL) ii) Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jenjarom (SMKJ) iii) Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sungai Manggis (SMKSM) and 3 schools from elementary school which are i) Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Banting (SKBB) ii) Sekolah Kebangsaan Kanchong Darat (SKKD) iii) Sekolah Kebangsaan Morib. the purpose of this study is to assess of knowledge of solid waste recycling and to research the awareness level and practice in solid waste recycling among the students. This study also is to determine the factors that can be the motivator and barrier to the students to practice recycling, and to be able provide recommendations to encourage solid waste recycling activities among the students. The written questionnaires were focused on the awareness and perceptions of students regarding solid waste recycling and the solid waste recycling activities among students. After analysis, there are certain issues regarding solid waste management in their school are not properly addressed, and revealed that the students only understand the basic recycling program. This indicated that the campaign and approach design has to be more practical to increase the students’ knowledge and attention on the above matter. Nevertheless this study has given impact to the students about the consequence of recycling and composting, and the importance of their participation and support in helping the government to overcome the management and disposal of solid waste in Malaysia. |
