Rajah Charles Brooke as then, has appointed a resident in each division to assist him in governing the area. In 1883, the Sultan of Brunei has submitted Bintulu and Baram area of Sarawak to Fig. In 1945 to 1963 the State has been placed under the control of British colonies and it has been divided into five sections. The four parts of the State when it covers Miri, Bintulu and Baram. In 1979 Bintulu was upgraded to a new Administration.
