Nonetheless, there are some parents who would apply other approaches when dealing with their children, which often results in indecisiveness when choosing the best parenting styles (Brown & Iyengar, 2008). The current study aims to explore the parenting styles of mothers and the self-esteem of their young children aged 3 to 5 years old. The study adopted a qualitative research method and was conducted through a phenomenological approach in order to study the experience of the mothers and their children. The three participants were interviewed through an online platform as the medium of communication using semi-structured interview questions. The data was then analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The study has explored the parenting characteristics of the mothers and illustrated an authoritative parenting style across the participants. Besides that, the characteristics of children with high self-esteem were explored within the data through the interview answered by the parents. The findings of this study can be beneficial in educating young parents who may not have the necessary skills or knowledge in child-rearing.
