According to him, literature is part of the beauty in Islam, and it is one of the characteristics of Islamic culture that implemented by Muslims. He also prefers to call Islamic literature as ‘Islamist literature’. He also has emphasized the definition of Islam before, and now he has done a depth explanation on the concept of Islamic literature. Based on his perspective, Islamic literature is the activities that are irresistible to Islamic values and norms. He also has agreed with Sayyid Qutb’s opinion which highlighted the art of the literature was based on the truth. He also said Islamic literature is not just about entertainment and every literature must be monitored constantly to see either it has the real goal or just want to convey the Muslim. After he has explored the important contents in Islamic literature polemic by Shahnon Ahmad and Kassim Ahmad, Bukhari Lubis has formulated Islamic literature into three parts. First, Islamists Literature (KI) which the writer himself must be a Muslim who is obliged to accept the Pillars of Faith and the Pillars of Islam. Second, the Literature ala-Islamists (K-a-I) which is the writer must write the teaching of Islam, however, the writer is not necessarily a Muslim. Third, the Muslim Literature (KM) is when there is a Muslim poet who produces work that contradicts with the teachings of Islam. However, this violation is not up to corrupt the author’s faith.
