It has a great influence, especially on the lifestyles of young adult Malay Muslim women. As such, this study tries to explore the answers to the following questions: (1) What types of media are used by young adult Malay Muslim women with regard to the Korean wave? (2) How do young adult Malay Muslim women perceive the Korean wave? (3) How does the Korean wave influence young adult Malay Muslim women audiences?, and (4) What are the strategies used by young adult Malay Muslim women to adhere to Islamic teachings while embracing the Korean wave? This study tested the cultivation theory as a powerful media effect theory. It employed a qualitative research design with the semi-structured in-depth interview method involving 12 young adult Malay Muslim women respondents. Four major themes were identified from the transcribed data: (1) media exposure towards the Korean wave; (2) perceptions towards the Korean wave; (3) influences of the Korean wave; and (4) strategies for adopting the Korean wave together with Islamic rules. Young Malay Muslim females mainly use Internet websites, social media applications, and stream media for Korean wave information. They perceived that the Korean wave is beneficial, as it focuses on respecting elders and seniors, with fresh themes and realistic lifestyles. They are influenced more by the language intonation, beauty and fashion, Korean foods than the negative influences of the Korean wave. As Muslims, the Malay females do exercise self-control and are moderate in their lifestyles.
