The Malaysian industry faces various challenges such as globalisation, intense competition, and technological changes. Within the context of Malaysia Madani, the country emphasises inclusive and sustainable economic development, balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability. The manufacturing sector, as a key contributor to the economy, needs to adapt more efficient approaches to remain competitive.
The Lean approach, which focuses on waste reduction, combined with ergonomic principles that centre on worker well-being, creates a synergy to improve operational efficiency and worker safety. Lean focuses on principles such as waste reduction and continuous improvement, while ergonomics optimises the work environment to reduce injuries and fatigue.
The combination of these two approaches provides benefits to organisations, including waste reduction, improved efficiency, and the creation of a safer work environment. The Kaizen approach, or continuous improvement, applied in ergonomics involves employee feedback to progressively enhance ergonomic aspects.
Implementation in the manufacturing sector involves adjusting workstations, using assistive tools, and scheduling work, which has positive impacts such as reducing musculoskeletal injuries, lowering employee absenteeism, and improving product quality.
Overall, the combination of Lean and ergonomics enhances productivity and worker well-being, providing a competitive advantage for Malaysian organisations. This approach also supports the goal of inclusive economic development and the well-being of the people, making it a strategic investment with long-term value. |
