Feeling. Emotion BF712 Developmental psychology The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has been exacerbating the negative effects on maternal mental health. This study examined the correlation between the level of psychological discomfort experienced by mothers and their reported level of intimacy with their children during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 34 and 23 mothers from both age groups (30-39 & 40-49 years old) respectively were randomly selected for the research. Mothers completed questions regarding mental health and the relationship between mother and child. The data has been analysed using Pearson correlation and independent sample t-test. The result showed a moderate psychological distress (M=1.71, SD=.61) experienced among the participated mothers. Relating to high perceived relationship (M= 3.38, SD=.47) reported, mothers were found more inclined towards a closer relationship (M= 4.24, SD=.76). Mothers aged 30-39 and 40-49 did not exhibit any notable disparity in terms of their psychological distress level and reported closeness with their children. This study focused on the measurement and analysis of mothers' psychological distress and how it impacts their relationship with their children in a beneficial way. Maternal mental health should not be neglected, though mothers appeared to closer engagement with their children. Healthy copings, social supports and shared parenting are encouraged to enhance balanced well-beings. Recommendations for further research will be explored.
