Historically centered on hydrocarbons, Algeria is an economy with some issues like high unemployment that has led to vulnerability throughout the country and economic instability since it still heavily depends on oil revenues. Therefore, the strategic plan is that it will diversify the economy, concentrating on developing renewable energy, technology in manufacturing, and training human capital. This paper analyses the historical problems that motivated this plan, including also its dependence on oil and gas. The research shows that the plan requires strong execution and will face formidable obstacles, such as a lack of expertise in building infrastructure and educational capacity. The study highlighted several challenges, such as how to reignite a state-driven economy, reinforce good governance and make growth more equitable across all regions of the country. If rigorously implemented, the Algerian Strategic Development Plan holds promise to realign Algeria toward a sustainable growth path while addressing economic vulnerabilities and improving social welfare among all income groups.
