Description
Summary:Shear walls are concrete or masonry continuous vertical walls which may serve both architecturally as partitions and structurally to carry gravity and lateral loading. Their very high in-plane stiffness and strength makes them ideally suited for bracing tall buildings. A research on the effect of shear walls of tall building against lateral wind load from different directions is investigated in this project. The objectives of this research are to determine the effective locations and the effective shape of shear walls which produce economic and safe tall building against wind load. STAAD software will be used for analyzing and designing. This research will start with 30 stories building without shear wall; followed by the same building with different locations of plane shear wall to determine its effective location. The final building will be designed with flange shear walls and channel shear wall to determine the reduction of overall deflection, reduction of reinforcement and the change in usable area.
