Description
Summary:Thermal Energy Storage (TES) is considered one of the most important advanced energy technologies which the thermal applications ranging from heating to cooling in buildings. The Ice Thermal Energy Storage is more efficient in terms of amount of energy over storage size compared to chilled water. This project is to analyse and design the Ice Thermal Energy Storage (ITES) system for Gas District Cooling (GDC) plant in UTP. The design specification of ITES system is based on the current setting of TES. The method used involves designing the district cooling system configuration for ITES system to supply the cooling capacity of 10,000RTh, determining the equipment specifications and then comparing with the current TES system to validate the design. From the findings, the designed ITES system consists of 4 units of 520 RT brine chillers and 4 units of encapsulated ice tanks that provided the cooling storage of 10,000 RTh. The ITES system is capable to reduce the charging hours of 14.3 % of the current TES system.
