The Hydrodeoxygenation of Non-Edible Oil for Green Diesel Production

Hydrodeoxygenation has been given huge attention as a promising method to renewable energy source. The purpose of this study is to synthesize green diesel from non-edible oil of Jatropha and Rubber seed oil as feedstock and discuss on the product distribution. It was proposed that a monometallic...

The purpose of this study is to synthesize green diesel from non-edible oil of Jatropha and Rubber seed oil as feedstock and discuss on the product distribution. It was proposed that a monometallic catalyst is suitable for green diesel via hydrodeoxygenation. 15% Nickel/ γ-Alumina are to be used for all the experiment and kept as a constant variable. Vacuum gas oil is introduced by mixing with non-edible oil as feed to the reactor. The reaction was carried out in a batch reactor in three hours’ time with a 1.5-2 grams of catalyst. Four different operating pressures under 300oC were selected for green diesel production from pure non-edible oil while only one best operating condition is for vacuum gas oil and nonedible oil mixture. Samples were analyzed by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and Flame Ionization Detector.
