A New Attribute for Hydrocarbon Detection Based On AVO Technique

Hydrocarbon prediction from seismic amplitude and AVO is a daunting task. Many AVO attributes were presented for this purpose. Description
Summary:Hydrocarbon prediction from seismic amplitude and AVO is a daunting task. Many AVO attributes were presented for this purpose. However, amplitude/AVO interpretation is ambiguous due to effects of lithology and pore fluid. To reduce this ambiguity, this study presents a new AVO attribute called "J" based on Gassmann- Biot fluid substitution. J attribute is defined as a rotation from Jp and Js which are two parameters we defined in this study. The rotation angle is derived from brine response. Thus, J attribute can distinguish hydrocarbon from brine.
