Summary: | The construction industry in Malaysia has undergone substantial growth in the past decade. With increasing developments from both public and private sectors. Despite these developments, the construction industry in Malaysia has introduced Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) to counter the issue of low quality construction output. As the nature of current construction methods is labour intensive, unskilled labour is used to overcome a labour shortage especially in large-scale developments. However, the use of unskilled labour in small to medium scale development has led to a declining standard of work on massive scale. From an industry viewpoint, the practice of outdated and labour-intensive construction methods has maintained the status quo. This study aims to compare, analyse and improve on the existing construction techniques for critical elements of residential structures to ensure structural soundness under the highest standard of quality with minimal use of unskilled labour. This study also aims to seek feedback from industry players to further understand the industry perception towards IBS methods. |
