All of this problem can lead to time and resource wastage in exploration stage. Those concerns can be avoid by enhance understanding the overpressure characterization in the certain area. There are many mechanisms that contribute to overpressure generation like, under compaction, fluid expansion and others. As the objective of this project is to predict the overpressure zone in ‘X’ area using the rock physics approach using elastic properties of compressional wave velocity (Vp), shear wave velocity (Vs), and density. Thus, the rock physic analysis and interpretation of well log data will be the methodology of this project. The fieldwork was conducted at Bukit Semanggol, Perak where core samples were taken. Another approach is to investigate clean sandstone sample for the laboratory work as the preliminary study the project. Further analysis would be the effect of the well location related to overpressure. At the end of this project, the expected result from rock physics analysis to be relate elastic properties together with the rock physical properties in the study area. Further analysis of this project will be done in order to see the relation between well location and overpressure zone. The result of this project can contributes to the well development planning, well exploration positioning, and hazardous prediction while drilling.
