Summary: | Bioretention is the process when the contaminants and sedimentation are removed from the storm water runoff. Bioretention can be the alternative for runoff treatment before it discharged into the waterways. This is because bioretention can remove the pollutants through filtration, adsorption and precipitation. In this study, the author will examine the water quality parameters, particularly on the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Ammonia in a column cell study of bioretention system. Besides that, the author will examine the physical properties of the vegetation plants throughout the study. Two vegetation plant species that will be implemented in the study is the Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis sp. and Ixora Padulosa sp. A total of four (4) bioretention cell columns which consisted of vegetated column and one (1) non-vegetated as a control cell. The laboratory analysis will be on the difference of the nutrient content of the influent and the effluent of the storm water runoff and nutrient removal performance among all 4 NOS bioretention cell. The result shows that the columns’ performance in removing the nutrients of BOD, COD and Ammonia are efficient especially Column 3, which consists of landscape plant (Ixora Padulosa sp) and soil mix (60:40). |
