The project is carried out to develop Excel based reliability tool to estimate life distribution of mechanical seals as well as to estimate number of spare parts required. Life Data Analysis (LDA) is applied to analyzing life distribution of mechanical seals. The first step is to gather the data of mechanical seals failures. Then based on LDA method, codes of Microsoft Excel Visual Basic Application are written and Excel programming based on reliability model is built up. The results obtained from Excel are being compared to Weibull++; which is dependable software all about reliability. The comparison of results between Weibull++ and Excel is acceptable because they result in same value with slightly difference of . Hence, the ExLDA.v1 which is the named given to Excel tool developed for this project is successful developed. Using ExLDA.v1, the life distributions of mechanical seals are determined. The average probability of failure of mechanical seals at 90 days is about 42%. Further, the number of spare parts is estimated and the average number of spare part required for one year is three units. The objectives are achieved.
