Summary:In a stand-alone photovoltaic application, power storage has been a common problem in many system that are currently implemented. This is primarily caused by insufficient management of the battery storage where proper charging and discharging are not practiced. Therefore, this project aims to develop a battery management system that could oversee the charging and discharging of the batteries in a traffic monitoring application to provide continuous power supply. The power consumption of the system were studied based on the existing system and the data obtained is used to design the battery management system. The battery management system will utterly improve the operation of the traffic monitoring system and other stand-alone photovoltaic applications thus making them more reliable.
