Summary:Atherosclerosis is a diseased that is due to fat plaque formation in artery. The narrowing of artery is called stenosis . The disease behavior is strongly depends on the flow behavior .The flow behavior is greatly affected by blood rheology where the viscosity is dynamic. The aim of this project is to investigate the influence of blood rheology on flow through a diseased artery. The flow of Newtonian viscosity is compared with non-Newtonian viscosity. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) approach has been undertaken where flow of healthy and diseased artery was compared. The effect of artery size is also investigated. It was found that the flow behavior of Newtonian and non-Newtonian were different in which the velocity magnitude was smaller in the latter case. Recirculation flow was formed at the downstream of the constriction of disease artery. The number of recirculation flows in non-Newtonian models was higher than the Newtonian case. When, the blood flows from larger artery to smaller artery, blood experiences changes in velocity and pressure in which the velocity increases as the blood flows through the smaller artery and the pressure decreases as blood flows through smaller artery.When there is a recirculation flow, the blood cells residence time are longer in which that will initiate the fat plaque formation. As a result, the stenosis will become narrower and the diseased will progress
