Summary:Seabed Logging is an application of marine Control Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) sounding, which can be applied to detect and characterize hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs in deep water areas. The basis of the approach is the use of a mobile Horizontal Electric Dipole (HED) source and an array of seafloor electric field receivers. This document describes the approach used in development of a novel terminated insulated antenna in a conducting medium. The main purpose of this project is to develop a new design of antenna that could function more efficient compared to HED. The developed antenna will act as a source that propagates EM wave for hydrocarbon detection purposes. The project includes research and study on the conceptual knowledge of EM itself. Experimental works using proposed design were carried out in order to choose the best design. In order to complete the objectives of this project, simulations also were done using CST EM STUDIO (CST EMS). These simulations were important to this project due to the limitation of equipment used such as the low current supply supplied by the function generator as well as for precaution and safety purposes. Results from experiments and simulations conducted show that circular loop antenna produces stronger magnetic field compared to dipole antenna. The improvement of the antenna also has been successfully done and the result was satisfying as the induced magnetic field from the antenna increases.
