Civil engineering (General) There are many applications nowadays using the anchorage system and every application requires suitable anchor type or capacity that can sustain the design load. The normal sleeve anchor that can be found in the normal hardware shop is usually produced based on its dimension only. The specification of the anchor's capacity is not provided. This situation can cause danger if the application load is greater than the anchor's capacity can handle. On the other hand, if the normal sleeve anchor has the required capacity same as the custom-made anchor and expensive that can handle wide range of application, it will result in saving money and time in order to get the specially design anchor. In this paper, the tension capacity of a normal sleeve anchor with selected anchor diameters are obtained by pull-out test. The pull-out test is carried out using the Universal Tensile Machine (UTM) 1000kN in Universiti Teknologi Petronas's laboratory. The normal sleeve anchor is installed in the concrete specimen with average compressive strength of 30N/mm2. Only adhesive failure which is the friction failure between the anchor and the concrete is considered. The result has revealed that the tension capacity of a normal sleeve anchor can be obtained using pull-out test and similar to the theoretical values. Greater diameter of anchor provided greater contact surface between the anchor and the concrete, thus greater tensile strength.
