Summary: | Transport planners often encounter difficulties in the estimation of capacity for minor roads due to the lack of standard approaches to be applied. This study aims to promote the design and planning of sustainable traffic facilities with the development of models for capacity estimation of minor roads and the identification of factors affecting traffic flow and capacity. A total of thirty sites that are minor roads from Bandar Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Maluri are selected for traffic data collection during AM peak hour of 8 am to 9 am. Fundamental Diagram approach and multiple linear regression analysis are adopted as the analysis methods. The result shows that the capacity model developed is significant in estimating the capacity of minor roads with the type of road, type of carriageway, and speed limit as the statistically significant predictor variables. The traffic density, average travel speed, type of road, and type of carriageway are the factors that may impact the traffic flow on the roads. The basic factors affecting the road capacity of minor roads are: type of road, type of carriageway, and speed limit. It is also discovered that the type of carriageway is the key factor that has the greatest impact on the capacity of minor roads, followed by the type of road and the speed limit. |
