Julia Kristeva coined the term ‘intertextuality’ in her readings of the work of Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin and Ferdinand de Saussure’s sign system and later followed by several scholars such as Roland Barthes, Gerard Genette, Michael Riffaterre and Harold Bloom.
