Panel regression method to analyse the stock market returns due to Covid-19 / Nur Mardziah Aziz Jaafar and Noraini Noordin
Published 2021“…This study aimed to determine the aftereffects of COVID-19 pandemic outbreaks on stock markets by measuring the correlation between market returns and daily growth of total new and death cases of COVID-19. Panel regression methods, namely pooled ordinary least square and fixed-effect methods were used in this study where the dependent variable is stock market returns and independent variables were i) daily growth new death cases COVID-19 ii) natural algorithm market capitalisation iii) Brent Crude Oil Price from January 2, 2020, until March 31, 2020. …”

On the earthquake distribution modeling in Sumatra by Cauchy cluster process : comparing log-linear and log-additive intensity models
Published 2023“…In this study, we consider the Cauchy cluster process with the log-additive intensity model to analyze the distribution of major earthquake occurrences in Sumatra, Indonesia. The estimation procedure follows the standard two-step estimation technique, where the first step adapts the method for the Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) using penalized iteratively reweighted least squares (PIRLS) algorithm, and the second step employs the second-order composite likelihood. …”

Model selection approaches of water quality index data
Published 2016“…In order to select the best model, it is vital to ensure that proper estimation method is chosen in the modelling process.Different estimators have been proposed for the estimation of parameters of a model, including the least square and iterative estimators. This study aims to evaluate the forecasting performances of two algorithms on water quality index (WQI) of a river in Malaysia based on root mean square error (RMSE) and geometric root mean square error (GRMSE).Feasible generalised least squares (FGLS) and iterative maximum likelihood (ML) estimation methods are used in the algorithms, respectively. The results showed that SUREMLE-Autometrics has surpassed SURE-Autometrics; another simultaneous selection procedure of multipleequation models. Two individual selections, namely Autometrics-SUREMLE and Autometrics-SURE, though showed consistency only for GRMSE.All in all, ML estimation is a more appropriate method to be employed in this seemingly unrelated regression equations (SURE) model selection.…”
