Multimedia has enormous potential from the point of view of self-based learning and it can serve as an independent complementary tool for enhancing the learning process. Instead of going through the inane, straitjacketed information as contained in the text book, though multimedia the learner is exposed to a variety of information which helps in a clearer understanding of the subject as well as in whetting the appetite to know more. With the rapid advancement in the Information Technology, the multiple media, animation, audio, video and graphics, becomes easier to integrate thus an interactive multimedia system can be developed to solve the problem faced by conventional education system. The low-cost multimedia development can really enhance the permeation of multimedia to the people level. Its technology is ready, and the infrastructure for training technicians and producers is being set up. Therefore, the advantages of using multimedia in education have led to the development of this project entitle "Incorporating Interactivity in a Multimedia Engineering Tool". In this project a prototype of an interactive multimedia tutorial system to facilitate the teaching of introductory first year course Mechanical Engineering subject that is taught in the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering program at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), has been develop.
